MFT Sketch 387 - Happy Bird-day

For this week's MFT Sketch challenge, I made a birthday card for my niece.  I think the A Tweet Hello set is so cute, and I love using peach, light blue and gray together especially on a white card base.

I used the MFT Clouds stencil and Broken China Distress Oxide ink to make the three background panels.  An additional piece of card stock under each panel gives them just a little height.  The die cuts were colored with Copic markers and popped-up with foam tape.  A tiny dab of Glossy Accents on the bird's beaks and Simply White Nuvo Crystal Drops in the centers of the flowers finished my card.

Thanks for stopping by, and your comments are always appreciated.  Have a tweet day!

MFT Color Challenge 94 - Another Year Wiser

Today I have a birthday card for MFT's Color Challenge 94 featuring Sno Cone, Summer Splash, Peach Bellini and Lemon Chiffon.  I think this is the first time I've had all four of the MFT color challenge card stock colors on hand, so I wanted to be sure to use each of them on my card.

I used the Triangle STAX dies for this first time to make a background for a Copic colored owl from the I'm Owl Yours set of stamps and dies.  I added some white die cut leaves from the Sketchy Flowers set for added softness and dimension.

Thanks so much for stopping by to take a look at my card, and I hope you have a hoot of a day!

Leyton's Legacy Card Drive

Today I have a card for Layton's Legacy card drive.  Lea Lawson has launched a fundraiser and card drive in honor of her baby boy, Leyton.

Leyton spent the five months of his life in the NICU at The University of Minnesota Masonic Children's Hospital.  Lea is raising money to purchase Starbuck's gift cards for the parents of the babies in the NICU on Leyton's birthday in June.  You can read Lea's post with all the details here

For the card drive, Lea shared with us the mood board she made when she was planning Layton's nursery.  The colors are so soft and sweet, and there are lots of critters for inspiration too.

I really enjoyed participating in the fundraiser and card drive.  I don't know Lea personally, but she has shared her journey and honored the memory of her son via Leyton's Legacy in such a beautiful way.

AAA Cards CAS Game #115 Guest Designer - Inspired by Nature

Today I'm pleased to be a Guest Designer for the AAA Cards CAS Game #115 - Inspired by Nature.
You can see all the information about the challenge and the Design Team's beautiful inspiration  here.

I was invited to guest design for this challenge after my card for the AAA Cards CAS Game #111 - Use Only One Third was selected a top three pick.  You can see my March 28th blog post for that card here.

When I learned that the theme for this challenge is Inspired by Nature, I knew right away that I wanted to make a Father's Day card for my Dad.  My Dad is a man of many talents and skills, one of them being wood carving.  So  my Dad, trees and leaves provided the perfect inspiration for my card.

I love the look of the Altenew Bold Alphabet lower case letters die cut from wood grain paper.   The heavy specialty paper has a subtle wood grain feel to it as well.  A leaf stamp from the Essentials by Ellen Rustic Botanicals set provides a background for the inlaid letters.  My Misti stamping tool came in handy for precise stamping of the leaf and MFT sentiment stamp.

This is one of those special cards with special meaning, my favorite kind.  Over the past several years, my Dad has carved beautiful leaf shaped dishes for my husband and I, my two siblings, and his grandchildren as mementos of our family tree.  And at 90 years old, he's working on leaf dishes for his three great-granddaughters.  I'm looking forward to giving the card to him on Father's Day.  I know he will love it, he's always so supportive of my card making projects.

MFT Birthday Project - Monster Birthday Shaker

A Monster-Sized birthday card for the Birthday Project Shaker challenge.  I used the color pallet from the current MFT Color Challenge 92 again, so this will be my second entry for that challenge as well.

The Rectangle Peek-a-Boo die and coordinating Rectangle Shaker Pouches make the process of assembling a shaker card so quick and easy.  MFT has several shaker sets and pouches to choose from.

The card itself is pretty simple, stamped images colored with Copic markers, die cuts and a background of stars stamped.  The sentiment strips are popped up for added dimension.

Thanks for stopping by!

MFT Color Challenge 92 - You've Got Mail

Today I have an entry for the current MFT Color challenge featuring Steel Blue, Lemon Chiffon, Safety Orange and Blue Yonder.   Again, it's a combination of colors that I normally wouldn't think of using.  It took me a while to come up with an idea for a card, but once I decided on a general "hello" type card using the MFT Mail Box and A Tweet Hello sets, it came together quickly.

I don't have Safety Orange card stock or ink, but my YR24 Copic marker was the perfect match. I used the Copic Color Matches reference guide found in the Resources tab on the MFT blog page to determine which Copic would be best.  The chart is really handy for matching Copics to MFT card stock and ink colors.
Thanks for taking a look at my card, and I hope you have a great day.

AAA Cards CAS Game #114 - Tic Tac Toe

Today I have a card for AAA Cards CAS Game #114 - Tic Tac Toe.  I chose the left vertical row, gold, water colors and flowers from the board of design choices to make a spotlight coloring friendship card.

I used Versmark and Ranger Liquid Platinum embossing powder, on Canson Cold Press watercolor paper, to heat emboss both the flower and the sentiment.  It's a soft gold that I think is really pretty.

The flower is from the Essentials by Ellen Mondo Peony set. A MFT heart shaped die and pencil were used to lightly trace the heart on the heat embossed flower.  Just two Zig markers, a pink and a yellow, and lots of water were used to water color the heart.  The pencil marks were easily erased after the paper was completely dry.  The sentiment stamp is from the Essentials by Ellen Fancy Thanks set.

The finished panel was mounted on a Lux White fold over note card from Paper Source.  It matches the water color paper perfectly in texture and color.  A strip of washi tape finished the card.

The Instagram Crafty Crew easy challenge for May is spotlight coloring, so I made this card for both.  I didn't find the spotlight coloring difficult, but I had a hard time coming up with a card using that method that I liked.  I finally decided to move away from a circle spotlight and came up with this, my fourth attempt to create a card I liked!

Thanks so much for stopping by to take a look at my card.

MFT Sketch 383 - Happy Bird-Day

For this week's MFT Sketch Challenge I used the adorable A Tweet Hello set to make a card for a young mom who has three boys and one girl.  She likes to garden and be outside, so I think it suits her.

I used Distress inks and the MFT Cloud stencil for the sky background inside the die cut circle.  The MFT Garden Gate was die cut three times, once in white and twice in Gravel Gray card stock to give it a bit more subtle depth.  The stamped and die cut images are colored with Copic markers.

Thank you for stopping by, and I hope you have a happy day.
